History¶
The Organizational Intelligence Framework was created to provide a public, vendor-neutral way to describe how organizations observe, understand, remember, reason, decide, act, learn, and continuously improve.
This page records the project history at a high level. It should remain factual, non-promotional, and clear about the relationship between the framework, ThinkHash, and implementations such as ThinkPipe.
Origin¶
The framework originated from work on organizational learning, knowledge, decision support, enterprise systems, AI-enabled workflows, and the need for organizations to retain understanding beyond individual people or tools.
The initial public framing focuses on three ideas:
- Organizational Intelligence as the outcome
- the Organizational Cognitive Engine as the enabling architecture
- Systems of Understanding as domain-facing applications and services
Initial Authorship¶
The initial originators are:
- Suresh T. Rupasinghe
- Eshan M. Herath
Authorship is recorded in AUTHORS.md. Maintainer responsibility is recorded in
MAINTAINERS.md.
Relationship to ThinkHash¶
ThinkHash is the founding steward for version 0.1.0.
The framework is intended to be open, public, and vendor-neutral. ThinkHash's stewardship does not mean that the framework is limited to ThinkHash products, services, or architecture choices.
Relationship to ThinkPipe¶
ThinkPipe is an implementation of the Organizational Cognitive Engine model. The Organizational Intelligence Framework is vendor-neutral and may be implemented using different technologies, architectures, and products.
ThinkPipe may be referenced as one implementation, but the framework should not be presented as ThinkPipe documentation or as a product-specific architecture.
Terminology Transition¶
Earlier source material may have used different terminology, including "Enterprise Intelligence."
The public framework uses:
- Organizational Intelligence
- Organizational Cognitive Engine
- Organizational Memory
- Collective Understanding
- Systems of Understanding
- Intelligence Compounding
- Organizational Intelligence Cycle
"Enterprise Intelligence" should not be used as a peer concept, enabling layer, or public category in this repository.
Public Release Milestone¶
Version 0.1.0 is the initial public draft release.
The goals of this milestone are to:
- publish the foundational terminology
- establish the repository structure
- provide root governance, contribution, citation, licensing, and support files
- create first-draft documentation
- add machine-readable data and schemas
- enable public review
Version 0.1.0 is not a formal standard, certification scheme, or final conformance program.
Future History¶
Future updates should record:
- major framework terminology changes
- governance changes
- public review milestones
- release milestones
- adoption and implementation history where approved for public release
- research and bibliography milestones
Do not add confidential implementation details, customer names, unpublished patent claims, internal roadmaps, or unapproved product information.
